NHTSA FMVSS214 Side Impact Barrier

Cellbond introduced the current method of honeycomb core certification and testing for energy absorption applications. This concept was adopted by NHTSA into the build requirements of FMVSS 214 and by EEVC Working Group 11 for the European frontal offset barrier.

The NHTSA barrier was the first deformable barrier that was taken over into an official standard, the US Federal Standard for Side Impact Protection (FMVSS 214). More recently, this barrier has also been adopted into the updated FMVSS 301 for rear occupant safety.
