NHTSA Frontal Small Overlap/Oblique Barrier

Cellbond has worked in collaboration with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the US on a research moving deformable barrier (RMDB) for frontal impacts that can recreate vehicle to vehicle collisions in two ways; small overlap and oblique offset impacts.

Even in cars that have safety belts and airbags a high level of fatalities are still seen in these types of crashes as they do not engage the main frontal longitudinals of cars and therefore lead to more severe injuries to vehicle occupants.

A full length and “half” length barrier specification was published in 2015 but is undergoing a review .
